Opening Ceremony

Saturday, October 15
3:30PM – 5:00PM
Location: Ballroom 20
The San Diego Police Department will welcome attendees to IACP’s Annual Conference and Exposition, followed by keynote speaker Simon Sinek.  Sinek is described as “a visionary thinker with a rare intellect.”  Sinek’s talk, “Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don’t”, will provide insight for leaders and organizations on how to inspire people.  With a bold goal to help build a world in which the vast majority of people go home everyday feeling fulfilled by their work.  Why do only a few people get to say “I love my job”?  It seems unfair that finding fulfillment at work is like winning the lottery; that only a few lucky ones get to feel valued by their organizations, to feel like they belong.  Imagine a world where almost everyone wakes up inspired to go to work, feels trusted and valued during the day, then returns home feeling fulfilled at the end of each day.  This is not a crazy, idealized notion.  Today, in many successful organizations, great leaders are creating environments in which people naturally work together to do remarkable things.  When the conditions in our organizations are right, we naturally trust each other and cooperate.  But when leaders neglect the environment in which their people must work, politics, silos, cynicism and self-interest prevail; all things that make it even more difficult for us to work together.  The best leaders know how to build those conditions and the best organizations are the ones in which the people work together to confront danger and seize opportunities.  Simon will explain what it takes to create an environment in which people work as they were designed – together.

For the first time, IACP members will have access to a live stream of our opening session at the IACP annual conference.  If you are unable to join us in San Diego, you can still be apart of the conference – mark Saturday, October 15 18:30 – 20:00 Eastern Time on your calendar and tune in to hear Simon Sinek.  Use this link on Saturday, October 15, 18:30 Eastern Time.  Note you will be required to login to your member account to view the on-line stream.
